Description: Dr. Schmitt was a tuberculosis fighter in the 1880's and a physician in Milwaukee, Wis., for over 50 years. His correspondence includes the years that he served as president of the Wisconsin State Tuberculosis Commission and president of the Steuben Monument Association. His records include history and blueprints of the Wisconsin State Sanatorium, Wales, Wis., which he helped to establish in 1907. Also included is research material for speeches and articles, newspaper clippings and magazine articles, mostly on tuberculosis prevention and treatment. There is also a funeral book, sympathy cards, obituary and eulogy for Mary Schmitt, Dr. Schmitt's wife.
